Criț (Deutschkreuz), Evangelical fortified church

Crit, a former manorial land, got its name from the cross that was errected nearby. The dwellers of the area built a church for the holly cross and the first houses of Crit appeared around this church. In 1322 the settlement belonged to Kerc abbey, in 1500 it belonged to Crita abbacy. The surrounding wall was built in the XV century, its hight ranging from 6 to 8 m. The chuch was demolished in 1810 and the new church was finished in 1813. In the XIX century the dwellers started to demolish the walls and build granaries in the yard. There was a deep well in the fortress, which is still standing today.

The fortified curch starts to decay in the XX century. A huge gate is opened on it in 1908, in 1925 the barbican collapses, in 1955 it is the turn of the the nort-estern tower. The latter was rebuilt.
